PRIVATE INTERNATIONAL HEALTH OFFICE
International Second Opinion in China for Canadians
Last updated: October 27, 2026
What is an international second opinion?
An international second opinion is a review of your diagnosis or treatment plan by an independent specialist. Star Matrix Health, a private international health office in Toronto, Ontario, coordinates second opinions from specialists in China: we organize and translate your records, prepare the questions, and bring the written opinion back for your Canadian doctor.
A second opinion is a separate specialist review of an existing diagnosis or treatment plan. It does not replace your Canadian doctor. People may use it to confirm a diagnosis, compare treatment options, or prepare questions before a major decision.
What Star Matrix Health coordinates
1. A confidential briefing on your history, goals and questions.
2. Record organization: reports, imaging and pathology, missing items, and translation arrangements.
3. Specialist selection based on case fit and specialty focus, not commissions. Availability is confirmed case by case.
4. Remote review or an in-person visit, as the specialist and institution determine.
5. A written opinion, translated where needed, for you to discuss with your Canadian doctor.
Local coordination in China
In Shanghai, we cooperate with local partners in the Lingang Special Area cross-border medical service network to help clients explore access to leading Grade 3A hospitals and senior specialists. Availability is confirmed case by case.
In Boao Lecheng, Hainan, we work with local partners; our partner hospital there is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. Network members are independently owned; Star Matrix Health is not affiliated with Mayo Clinic.
Frequently asked questions
Is an international second opinion a replacement for my doctor in Canada?
No. It is an additional specialist view. Discuss it with your Canadian doctor, who remains responsible for your care in Canada.
Do I have to travel to China for a second opinion?
Not always. Some reviews can be done from records and imaging; others need an in-person visit. The specialist and institution decide.
Which records are needed?
Usually recent reports, imaging files, pathology, a medication list and a doctor's summary. We help identify missing items and arrange translation.
Does Star Matrix Health take hospital commissions?
No. We take no hospital commissions.
